5 apps for the career decision you keep circling

A career decision gets circled for months because it never has all its facts in one place at the same time. These five each supply one: what the role actually pays, what it is like inside, what the people already there are saying, how the choice looks from ten years out, and how you sound when you have to say it aloud.

The apps for the career decision you keep circling are Levels.fyi, Framework, Glassdoor, Blind and Speeko. I built Framework; the other 4 are other developers’ apps.

Four stars is my score for how well an app answers this moment. An app I built gets four and a half — that is a rule, not a comparison. The App Store’s own average is on each card beside it.

  1. Levels.fyi

    ★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · Free · Social Networking · App Store 4.8 (1,184)

Live salary submissions, broken down into base, bonus and equity, so the number in the offer can be compared with what people at that level are actually paid.

Skip it if you expect the website's full salary search — reviewers find the app searches one title at a time and leans on its forum, and signing in with Google keeps failing.

  2. Framework Editor’s pick

    ★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · Free · Business · App Store 5.0 (6)

Take the offer? Switch fields? Move cities? Run a 10-10-10, an Ikigai check and a Regret Minimization in one sitting; the AI fills each one in and hands back a next step.

  3. Glassdoor

    ★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · Free · Business · App Store 4.8 (786,353)

Reviews from people who worked there: culture, leadership, work-life balance, pay. Filter ratings by gender, race and more, and ask the awkward questions anonymously in Bowls.

Skip it if you want salary figures you can rely on — long-time users say pay data now leans on estimates rather than submissions, and the app keeps asking for profile details before it shows much.

  4. Blind

    ★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · Free · News · App Store 4.6 (13,484)

Verified employees talking anonymously — layoffs, re-orgs, bonuses, offer evaluations. The private company forums are where you hear what the recruiter won't say.

Skip it if you work outside tech or cannot verify with a work email — the conversation skews heavily towards well-paid engineers, reviewers describe the tone as hostile, and sign-up stalls when your employer's domain is not accepted.

  5. Speeko

    ★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · Free · Education · App Store 4.7 (4,717)

Real-time feedback on pace, tone and filler words, so the interview, or the conversation you have to say out loud, gets rehearsed first.

Skip it if you want detailed feedback without paying first — most exercises and results are behind the subscription, reviewers find the feedback thin, and several were charged a full year before they meant to be.

Framework is one of mine — everything else on this list is someone else’s app. How that works.
